Top MMORPGs in 2010

Not a year goes by in the MMORPG world when we do not see MMOs rising to the top and some falling hard to the ground. This year proves to be no different with highly anticipated expansions such as Guild Wars 2 and World of Warcraft Cataclysm. There are some new and innovative games hitting the market as well such as Lego Universe and Star Wars, based on the movie and the highly distinguished single player game.  Even the no download MMORPGs are so popular these days, So come with me as we jump into the world of MMORPGs coming for 2010.

1 Guild Wars 2

This new game follows up the acclaimed Guild Wars 1, taking a similar path of intense combat and simple fun with friends. Thus far, much information has been released on it, classes, races, environment and the most important, combat. The elementalist is the only class revealed and proves to be weak in defense but extremely powerful in attack wielding the power of nature. There are five races, which have their unique starting areas and pros and cons which will affect each class. The environment in Guild Wars 2 will be beautiful and flowing as players will join together to take on this new world. The combat will be the best part of the game as it is simple, fun and rewarding as players can use magic and weapons to defeat opponents. It will follow the same model as Guild Wars 1 meaning it is Buy To Play, so look out for Guild Wars 2 in your stores soon.

2 Star Wars The Old Republic

Star Wars The Old Republic is considered to be one of the greatest single player RPGs ever to hit us, and now, we will be struck with a lightsaber through our heart as we are now getting Star Wars the Old Republic in MMO form, where we can fight together to kill the Sith or even take down the Jedi. The environment is taken from the old game as well as the movie. There are 8 classes in all, each with their own pros and cons. The Jedi side has the Trooper, Smuggler,Jedi Knight and the Jedi Consular. The Sith has its own classes, the Bounty Hunter, Sith Warrior, Imperial Agent and Sith Inquisitor. The game is set to be P2P as far as the news goes and the Death Star will be hovering over our computers in 2011.

3 World of Warcraft Cataclysm

Cataclysm is set to take on an entirely new turn of events in Azeroth where we see both the alliance and the Horde getting a new race, the goblin and the worgen. It also shows Azeroth in a totally new environment, where the Burning Steppes was full of evil, it is now full of lush green grass and joy meanwhile places of good are decimated. It is set to be the pinnacle of the most played MMO to date and will bring new roleplayers to World of Warcraft. The two new races are important factors in this. In the story, it is said that all the world was burnt to ashes by a master dragon and who will need the horde and alliance to stop his strong force. The goblins are thieves and scoundrels but since their home is taken away and they find a new enemy in the alliance, the worgen, they are invited with open arms by the horde. The worgen is a mixture of wolf and beast and is able to transform to a wolf in the middle of combat. Their history is long and great and they have founded a new enemy and so have joined the alliance to fight. This expansion promises to be great, so don’t miss out.

4 All Points Bulletin

APB as it is commonly called takes on a new type of MMO feel putting us in the position of a gangster where we must choose our side, style, weapon, vehicle, crew and world. I will give you a small intro into each. You must choose a side, either enforcer or police or a criminal. The Pvp aspect will be the wars between these two groups. You must now choose a style, this means appearance and looks. Now for the most important step, the weapon. Weapons in this game will either turn the tide to you or in favor of your opponent. The possible weapon choices are a lot, snipers, pistols, bazookas and much more. Vehicles are also important in this game as they are your rides to get away or just a joyride. Next, you must choose your crew or guild. These are the guys you fight with and who back you up. The world in this game looks awesome and all in all APB seems to take on a gangster and GTA feel.

5 Need For Speed World

Who doesn’t love racing and winning cars? Maybe a noob but Need For Speed World is a game for everyone. It has an arcade racing feel to it which will be easy to manipulate for all users to get into the game and love the game. The cars are countless and most likely there will be crews to choose, cars to win and a small storyline which will carry you into the world of illegal racing. The game is currently in beta and the news seem great about the game. There are hundreds of customizations to put on the car to ensure it rules the streets and even a starter kit for new players to get into the game. All racing fans should try this game out because it is a great game. It is set to be F2P with cash shop or P2P.

6 DC Universe Online

This game is set to feed the hunger of the comic fans as it allows players to be superheroes or supervillains and write their own history into the books of DC. So far, little to know news has been put out by the developers but the screenshots looks promising because it shows pictures of commonly known heroes such as Green Lantern and brings out some new superheroes like Black Adam. 7 Lego Universe

Lego Universe is a recently announced innovative game which has blown away the minds of many including myself as it puts the player into an unbelievable world and atmosphere where we could build our own Lego, customize it, meet friends and fight and play with others. The building process has 3 trees in which we can do it, quick build which means random legos,modular build which means we customize for ourselves and free building. The playing part of this game seems to be the most interesting as we can fight opponents and even battle other players. A very good addition is that when you defeat a Lego, it explodes and pieces are scattered everywhere. There are also numerous achievements and hidden treasures. The communication method are great as well as we can talk ingame, trade and mail other players. Customizing of Legos is possible as well and will be the most fun. Legos can be dressed up and fashioned to your own needs and wants. This game looks amazing and get ready for it later this year.

8 Final Fantasy 14

The well known and highly anticipated games of Square Enix just went to a new level as we are about to jump into the online world of Final Fantasy 14. The storyline seems to vary for each race and you can choose your own path which is great for roleplayers. There are 5 races, three which have a male and female character and two which have single gender possibilities. There are two branches of the story, Age of Adventure which deals with the villagers of Eorzea and a realm divided which seems to take a more evil turn and the vile and wicked creatures who look for total power. The game is set to be P2P and can be yours later 2010 or early 2011.

9 Jumpgate Evolution

Jumpgate is the highly acclaimed space MMO in which you are put into the driver’s seat and must pilot and ship to conquer space and to become rich through asteroids and its minerals. The gameplay and graphics of Jumpgate are outstanding and the possibilities are endless. Players can engage in dogfights which means one vs one battle as well as massive space battles with 50 players vs 50 players. There is a vast world to explore and 3 playable nations, each with its own attributes. The world’s economy is controlled totally by players. One great thing about JG:E is that the game is graphically stunning but can run on low end PCs. Thus far, there is no news on a beta release date but the forums and website is opened for news. The company wants to release the first beta by Christmas of 2010 or early 2011. Stick around for the news.

10 The Secret World

Funcom puts the players of this game in a real and fantasy world environment where fiendish where wolves and vampires roam the world and nightclubs are empty and dirty. The features of this game looks amazing. The next generation graphics will be a plus and the community is made better by guilds and groups being formed. There is intense PVP combat which will give rewards which you can track and show to the world. It is set in an urban environment but players can surprisingly find their hometowns in this game! There are real world places like Egypt and much more. The game is action packed and with hundreds of powers available to conquer opponents. This game is set to come out later this year and will have some serious thrills.
